Deployment of sections and repositioning of the intake tower
This project was one of Compas Marine’s most significant maritime infrastructure projects, focused on the installation of outfalls, a filtration system, and an intake tower for the Aguas Antofagasta desalination plant in the Chimba sector of the Antofagasta Region.
The project involved the assembly and launching of emissaries ranging from 50 to 131 meters in length and 1,600 mm in diameter, using a counterweight system of 6 to 15 tons at the Port of Antofagasta.
Once the outfall sections were assembled, they were self-loaded onto the deck of the crane barge and georeferenced into their final positions for the project. Finally, once all sections were positioned on the seabed, they were connected to one another using adjustment reels. This installation method avoids risks associated with transporting elements by water and reduces operating costs, as it eliminates the need to obtain permits and construct launch docks.
More than 150 people participated in the project, supported by specialized teams and innovative technological solutions, reaffirming the commitment to safety, operational excellence, and leadership in complex maritime projects.
