This project involved the maintenance of the submarine fiber optic network that forms part of the National Fiber Optic Project in the Southern Macro Zone. There were eight sections that, in total, spanned 136 kilometers between the Los Ríos and Los Lagos regions. This is where the Aquaculture team was tasked with carrying out work for Telefónica, which operated the network on behalf of SUBTEL, where the cable connected to the terrestrial network, but without interfering with the splices or the fiber-optic cable on land. At sea, the vessel navigated to the point of the fault with the aid of navigation systems. The vessel anchored there, and the damaged cable was located using an ROV or a diver. Once located, the area was cleared, and buoys were installed to mark key points and facilitate subsequent retrieval.
